The paper should be a
tutorial type text with pedagogical concerns about a topic related to
audiovisual communications. This paper has the main objective to provide the students
with a bibliographic search experience and stimulate the contacts with relevant
companies in a specific technical area. This should give the students deeper
and real knowlegde in a relevant topic in the field of audiovisual
communications. Naturally, whatever the topic selected, the audiovisual issues
should have a central role in the paper.
·
The topics to be addressed may be
suggested by the lecturer or chosen by the students themselves provided that
they get the agreement of the lecturer. In case there is no consensus, the
topic for the student will be randomly selected from the list of suggested
topics.
·
The paper will be written in groups of 2
or 3 students.
The paper will be provided in 2 versions,
notably:
1. Paper version with no
more than 8 pages using the template provided which should not be significantly
changed (notably in the font size)
2. HTML version with a similar content of the paper version
while exploiting the Web facilities such as links, videos, etc; this second
version should make the students understand that different processes should be
used to provide the ‘same’ message’ with different communication mechanisms.
The paper should be an ‘easy reading’ but
without compromising the technical and scientific quality. The paper should not
only provide a description of the current technical landscape on the selected
topic but should also set the trends and perspectives for the future. The target reader should be an IST colleague
of the same academic year.
Beside technical aspects, the paper structure,
and the editorial and graphical qualities are also essential as all these
aspects are critical for the final impact of such document. The students have
available in this Web page, a document listing the main criteria to be used for
the assessment of the paper.
The topic for the paper may be selected by the students in the first
week of the semester in order that they may start dedicating time early enough
and along the semester and finish it before the exams.
