Assessment Method

The scoring methodology for the Audiovisual Communication course considers three components, as follows:

                  Final exam after the lecturing period with a weight of 70% in the final score;

                  Scientific paper and related Web page on a selected topic with a weight of 30% in the final score;

                  Participation in the laboratory sessions by filling a form to be returned at the end of each lab session.

The final score is computed as:

Final_score = round [(0.7 × Exam_score + 0.3 × Paper_score) × Lab]

where Lab is 1 if the student has participated in, at least, N-1 of the N lab sessions and 0.95, otherwise.

·        Exam

§  The minimum exam score is 9.5.

·       Paper

§  The minimum paper score is 9.5.

§  The paper is to be written in groups of 2 or 3 students but the score will be individual.

§  The paper scoring may include a presentation/discussion, if this is considered necessary.

§  The paper scoring may include a self-assessment component which may raise the paper score in 1 score point at maximum. The students will get a bonus in the paper score of 1 unit if their score estimation and the professor score (who does not know the student estimates) are the same; they will get 0.5 point bonus if the estimate is within 1 score point of the professor’s score.

·       Final score

§  Students with a final score higher than 17 must perform an additional oral exam to confirm the score unless this is considered not necessary.; not performing this oral exam, if requested, implies getting automatically a final score of 17.

§  The score will be valid for subsequent years.
